What We Declare to the Angels

His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 3:10-11

Christians are fascinated by angels. What goes on in the heavenly realms intrigues us who are confined to the physical realm. The Scriptures (both in the Old Testament and the New Testament) clarify that angels and demons are real. They war with each other in a realm we cannot see, but they impact our lives.

People ask me questions about angels and demons regularly. I get it. They are real. Their war and activity affect our lives as we seek to live for Christ in this world. It is dangerous for us to deny their existence or power. Likewise, it is dangerous for us to overemphasize the extent of their power in relationship to the power of our Savior.

Paul has much to say about demons and angels. He specifically addresses the warfare we face with the Devil in Ephesians chapter six. The Apostle challenges us to put on "the whole armor of God" to withstand Satan's attacks. In Ephesians 3:10-11, Paul tells us that the mystery of God's redemptive plan in Christ has now been fully revealed. He preached what was once the mystery of the Gospel. It is a mystery no more.

The Apostle says that the church manifests or reveals the glorious Gospel and God's wisdom in it "to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms" (Ephesians 3:10-11). In saying, "rulers and authorities in heavenly realms," Paul references those in the angelic realm. The reality of the Gospel in the church declares "the wisdom of God" to these angelic beings.

We, who are the Church, declare in our salvation the infinite wisdom of God to the angels of heaven. We are a testimony of God's grace found in His Son Jesus! What a privilege and joy we have in being trophies of God's grace for all eternity!

Thank God for what we, as the church, get to declare about the grace of God found in Christ to the angels!
