Monday - May 30th Scripture to Read for Today's Devotional: Psalm 6

My soul is in deep anguish. How long, Lord, how long?

Psalm 6:3

Every day we greet one another with various forms of the question, “how are you?” The response is almost always a automatic positive: “Great”, “I’m fine”, “I’m ok”, or some other form of a simple and upbeat response. We rarely have people tell us that they are anything less than, “ok”. Letting people know that we are not okay is not really a part of our culture. Maybe it is because we don’t want to bother folks with our burdens, or problems. Maybe it is because we want to look good and don’t want to show weakness, or vulnerability. Whatever the reason, it is important to know and to admit when we aren’t okay.

The Psalmist admitted openly and honestly that he knew he was not okay. Scripture contains this Psalm, and many other passages, where we see very bold admittance of emotional pain and gut-wrenching struggle. The Holy Spirit has placed these passages for us to know that God wants us to be real and express our struggles to Him. We don’t need to hide or fake being okay with God. Jesus desires to walk with us when we are not okay. He will never leave us and wants to be present in every area of our life’s highs and lows. Because of His great love for us, God offers His peace, comfort, hope, power, healing and whatever you need in every circumstance.

Openly communicate to God areas where you are not ok. Embrace His comfort.
