One of the songs that God used to provide comfort during the earliest days of the pandemic continues to bring hope to God's people. Singer and songwriter Kari Jobe introduced "The Blessing" to the church a few months into the COVID lockdowns. When choirs and bands created zoom worship services, "The Blessing" hit just the proper focus on the Lord and unity in the church.

If you go to YouTube and search "The Blessing," you will find a wide variety of videos of the song. Many will show worship leaders from various churches in a country, region, or city coming together to create a "Zoom version" of the song. Seeing 10-15 individual Zoom windows in one video with folks from various churches singing the same blessing significantly impacted the global church.

You can find a version of the song with worship leaders throughout Ireland, New York City, the State of Idaho, and many other places. Each has its own style and feel, but they all communicate the tone and heart of the Scripture quoted in Jobe's song. In a time when families and churches were divided by pandemic protocols and political debates, we needed something so simple, sweet, and clear as "The Blessing."

After a big holiday weekend that included gatherings with family and friends, "The Blessing" tone means so much to us. Thanksgiving weekend should capture the gratitude and hope conveyed in the song.

Today, take a few moments to check out the Passion City Church orchestrated version of "The Blessing" from Easter of 2020. Remember that the video was recorded merely weeks into the COVID lockdowns.
