Day 25: Attitude of Gratitude

Scripture to Read Today: Proverbs 4:10-22

My son, pay attention to what I say;

turn your ear to my words.

Do not let them out of your sight,

keep them within your heart;

for they are life to those who find them

and health to one's whole body.

Proverbs 4:20-22

"More than 1,300 nursing homes across the U.S. reported having three or more confirmed Covid-19 cases during the first week of November. This is the highest number ever reported in a single week," according to NBC News. The figure does not include outbreaks at assisted living facilities, which the federal government does not track.

A good friend of mine owns and manages a number of nursing homes in the Midwest. Of course, this year has been deeply concerning to him and his team. He wants to protect his residents from COVID-19 and, in so doing, provide some peace to their families.

In this year, more than any other in modern history, more Americans have thought about their health and the health of loved ones at the same time. Since the COVID outbreak began earlier this year, I have been tested three times for the virus. Each of the tests was taken out of an abundance of caution. I didn't want unwittingly to expose folks working on our weekend services. Each time, I either had overactive allergies or a cold. But it was essential to be sure.

With greater awareness of our health and the health of others around us this year, it only seems fitting that we would thank God for our health this Thanksgiving. I know many of us may be dealing with challenges to our wellness from other medical challenges outside of COVID-19. A person battling cancer recently told me they understand now how best to thank God for their health.

No matter how you feel or what you are facing, take some time today to thank the Lord for your health. Recognize that your Creator is also your Sustainer. Just like any other blessing in life, your health comes from Him.

Proverbs, chapter four, clarifies that we have the best opportunity to have good health when we live with wisdom from the Creator. Unwise living ruins your health. Think about all of the health issues related to sexual immorality, substance abuse, and risky behavior. Words of wisdom "are life to those who find them and health to one's whole body" (Proverbs 4:22).

While dealing with diseases is a part of living in a world marred by the fall of humanity, living by the wisdom that comes from God reduces risk to our health. Look at your life. Are you living by the wisdom of God as found in His Word?

Thank God for the health He gives you. Look to His Word for His perspective on how to live and reduce any risks to your health!
