Scripture to Read Today: Daniel 7:9-14
As my vision continued that night, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence. He was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race and nation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal—it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed.
Daniel 7:13-14

From time to time, when my mother was frustrated with my Dad, my brother, me, or just life itself, she would declare, "If I were Queen for a day!" Mom would then list all the things she would change about the three men she had to live with, the house we lived in, the routine of her day, and the limitations she had, physically, due to an accident when she was fourteen years of age. While the items changed on her "Queen for a day" wishlist, the gist was the same. She would alter all the things that drove her crazy in our home.
What would you do if you were king or queen of the universe for a day? Would you address significant worldwide challenges like hunger, impure water supplies, and war? Or would you focus more on the everyday stuff of your life?
None of us will ever get the chance to rule the universe (the world can rest a little easier now), but we often wish we could just get five minutes to tell presidents and prime ministers how to lead. Our world is full of heartache, evil, and injustice. God says that will come to an end one day. He will make all things right by making all things new.
Throughout the Book of Daniel, there are several dreams and visions that point to how God will sum up human history as we know it. One of the most reassuring aspects of God bringing the world we know to an end so that He might establish a new heaven and new earth is who He puts in charge. In Daniel 7:9-14, one looking like the Son of Man is given authority over all of Creation by God (the Ancient of Days). The New Testament links the one given dominion over everything to Jesus. He will rule and reign.
My favorite two sentences in this passage are found in verse fourteen. "His rule is eternal—it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed." Once Jesus establishes His Kingdom ultimately in the new heaven and the new earth; nothing will ever interrupt, detract from, or erode his reign. What hope! One day, He will reign forever.
Maybe you have felt the injustices of this world personally. Perhaps the evil of our day impacted your family. The brokenness and groaning of this world will not always exist. There is a day coming when Christ will reign forever and ever!
Celebrate the hope found in the promise of Christ's eternal reign in His eternal Kingdom that cannot be destroyed!
