He's the Creator

One of the most famous political slogans of the twentieth century came from the 1992 presidential campaign of then Governor of Arkansas, Bill Clinton. The incumbent, George Herbert Walker Bush, had started the 1992 campaign year with some of the highest popularity numbers of any sitting president. He had led a coalition of nations in what was termed the "Persian Gulf War." He had successfully and quickly driven Iraq's Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait. Most political pundits believed that Bush was unbeatable that year.

History has a way of changing very quickly. By late spring and early summer of that presidential campaign year, the economy began to sputter. Political voices said that while the President had his eye on the middle east, he had lost sight of domestic issues - specifically the economy. Bill Clinton's campaign sensed President Bush was very vulnerable because of the economic problem. They famously organized every campaign event, appearance, and speech of Clinton's campaign around the economy's trouble.

In their campaign headquarters' war room (as they called it), a sign was hung that simply said, "It's the economy, stupid." That became the driving theme of Bill Clinton's march for the White House. It worked. His advisors and political gurus stayed disciplined. In the end, Bush lost the election, and Bill Clinton became President.

Recently, while reading 1 Chronicles 16 from the Old Testament, I thought of Bill Clinton's simple slogan. As the passage describes our God and the importance of worshiping Him, it says something about all other gods - idols. The declaration is crystal clear: "For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens" (1 Chronicles 16:26). Yes, people worship all kinds of gods or idols. But, ultimately, there is only one Creator. He is God. It made me think of the clarity of "It's the economy, stupid." But, my thought was this. Do you want to find the one true God? "He's the Creator, stupid." Forgive me for the "stupid."

No wonder 1 Chronicles emphasizes so much that the Heavens display the glory of God. Lift up your eyes today and see the beauty and intricacy of God's creation. Take a moment to look at one flower. Pause and gaze at the sunrise or sunset. Spend a few moments looking at the moon and stars tonight. Remember, "He's the Creator!"

There may be many religions with other gods and idols, but the true God is the Creator of the universe!
