Gold can grow on Eucalyptus trees. In its search for water, the Eucalyptus tree absorbs gold particles dissolved in the deep water underground, then storing the gold in the leaves of the tree. The gold in the leaves is a cheap and effective way to discover new gold deposits in Australia.

Many of us have Eucalyptus trees in our yards here in Southern California. If you have one, take a moment and check the leaves for gold particles. If you see any, you better stake your claim to the ground beneath the tree - you may have a deposit of gold. If you find gold in your yard, it seems only fair that you would acknowledge my part in telling you about how money grows on trees.

We all know that money does not actually grow on trees. For the children of God, that does not matter. Our God provides what we need when we need it. What God gives us is better than a money tree in our yard.

As the nation of Israel moved through the desert on their journey from slavery in Egypt to freedom in the promised land, God met their needs. They complained throughout the journey that they did not have what they wanted or needed. But, looking back, the people understood how good God had been to them.

Years later, in the temple, the music director wrote Psalm 81 as a retelling of the story of God protecting and providing for Israel in their desert wanderings. Quoting the Lord to His people, verse ten says, "I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it." In the last verse of the Psalm, we read, "You would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."

God declares His provision for His people. Open your mouth and He will fill it. He may even give you "honey from the rock." The Psalm speaks of a generous, giving, caring God. We know and serve the same God. Paul told the Philippian believers that God supplies all of our needs in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). No matter what you need, God can and will provide.

Money may not grow on trees in your yard, but be thankful that God will generously provide for all of your needs!
