Day 30: Attitude of Gratitude

Scripture to Read Today: 1 Thessalonians 5:12-18

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

After a month of focus on giving thanks, has your attitude of gratitude grown? Do those you spent a full national holiday of gratitude with notice you are a more grateful person? Our gratitude attitude should grow as we step back and see Who God is and how He has blessed us!

Maybe you have struggled to broaden the things you see for which you can be thankful. Perhaps this year of 2020 has just been so overwhelming it has limited your perspective. One sure way to combat a lack of gratitude is to continue to count your blessings and express your thankfulness to God daily. Continuing an attitude of gratitude is not only healthy for us spiritually but also psychologically. We cope with the ups and downs of life far better than usual when we can count our blessings and thank God for them.

Remember what 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says with simplicity and clarity, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

If you have struggled to find the words to express to the Lord your gratefulness, here is a prayer that might help you today. Maybe it is a prayer you should pray from your heart every day until the end of the year. It might help you find your footing and your words in expressing thanks to God. Here is the prayer:

Dear Lord,

Thank you for your incredible power and work in my life. Thank you for your goodness and your blessings to me. Thank you for bringing hope into my life through even the most challenging times, strengthening me for your purposes.

Thank you for your great love and care. Thank you for your mercy and grace. Thank you that you are always with me and will never leave me. Thank you for your incredible sacrifice so that I might have freedom and life.

Forgive me when I don't thank you enough for who you are, for all that you do, for all that you've given.

Please help me to set my eyes and my heart on you afresh. Renew my spirit, fill me with your peace and joy.

I love you and need you, this day and every day. I give you praise and thanks, for You alone are worthy!

In Jesus' Name,

Amen.

Thankful people are healthy people. They experience peace, joy, and satisfaction even in difficult times. Find ways to thank God regularly!
